The Best Of 2023 - Tell us your favourite moments
The year is almost at an end.. so it's a great time to reflect on 2023.
With the New Year fast approaching, we’ve been reminiscing hard about the last 12 months and put a question out in the WhatsApp group for people’s favourite moments of 2023.
We’d love to hear your favourite moments and you can scroll down and add yours in the comments or click the button under here.
Here though are a few thoughts to get the juices flowing:
Ellis Woods (Berks County joint-manager): Our away defeat to Marlow in the Berks and Bucks was my favourite moment of 2023!
For us to take them to penalties was a hugely proud day for me and Simmo. Opened our eyes to what we can achieve and where we can go as a team.
Neil Maskell (Maidenhead United Club Secretary): Macey Nikiah-Walters extra time goal at Sutton United in the Women's FA Cup First Round. A winning goal in a 4-3 thriller to take her team through to Round 2 for the first time ever. An instinctive finish by a teenager with her first touch sparking memorable celebrations.
Dan Walkley (Tadley Calleva Media Manager): Ascot United’s Wembley win will sit right up there in my memory of experiences at football. Despite travelling the world with both Chelsea and England in years gone by, being given the opportunity to work alongside the great team here at Football in Berkshire at Non-League finals day was a day I’ll cherish forever.
The elation of Kai Walters header hitting the back of the net topped off what was an extraordinary season for Ascot United after a record-breaking league campaign, earning promotion to Step 4. It also encapsulated the reasons many of us do what we do, volunteering daily to progress our clubs and the exposure of football in the area. Dan has written a longer version of this which you can read here.
Tom Canning (Football in Berkshire): Fairly recent this, and almost nothing to do with success. Dan has pretty much covered the privilege we’ve had this year reporting from Wembley - so mine is really simple.
Taking my three-year-old daughter to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to watch Reading FC Women earlier this month. I’ve taken her to plenty of non-league games and she loves scooting about, but this was different and required her to be ‘still’ in the same place. It really worked, all the staff were incredibly friendly, the supporters around me were very understanding and while she wasn’t glued to 90 minutes of action, it was a great bit of daddy-daughter time and I’ll remember it forever.
Now, it’s time to tell us your moments of the year in the comments below:

Bracknell Town have had a fantastic 2023 especially in the cups with some amazing memories, a few come to mind, the visit of Ipswich Town live on TV under the lights, an away trip to Cambridge Utd are just a few of the amazing experiences but for me beating Dagenham and Redbridge with that late winner was my favourite moment of 2023, it was hard fought and well deserved and encapsulates a great year at Bottom Meadow.
